Road Trip for Reparations

This Saturday, January 27th marks a significant day for our cause. We’re headed to Columbia, South Carolina to join allies as well as national leaders, in calling on President Joe Biden (and Republicans) to move forward with a national commission for reparations. This year, it’s crucial that both parties recognize that they cannot take the support of Black voters for granted. (You can read more about the campaign at https://earntheblackvote.net/.)

Here is the Road Trip plan so far.

  • We’ll leave Asheville at 7:30 am.
  • We’re looking into van rentals so we can travel in larger groups. We need a rough count of how many people are planning to come to solidify those plans.
  • It’s possible that we’ll carpool instead, which is why we’re asking if there are folks willing to drive in the form below. If we go this route, the RJC will cover gas expenses.
  • The plan is to arrive at the Democratic Headquarters in Columbia by 10:30 am. We’ll support the local organizers in several different actions around town over the course of the day, and then plan to start back toward Asheville at around 4 pm, getting home by 7.
